Apparently this spammer has been visiting various Keenspace boards, so maybe he assumes that all web cartoonists must, naturally, chain smoke while dealing with their scanner woes or whatnot.
Part of me still wonders whether D&Q ants and the fact that the discussions of Johnny Roventini and Philip Morris have been archived and culled elswhere through various search engines as hits for "cigarettes" could have been a factor, though.

You're forgetting not just the insurance risks, but international postal bans on shipping non-stuffed, ravenous wildlife through the mails. Blame FedEx men and the like for lacking a sense of adventure and risk.
