Amelie - 10

Okay. People who think Starship Troopers was a 9 would probably not enjoy this movie and should avoid it, I'm thinking.

It was quite easily the best movie I've seen in a long, long time. Pretty much since City of Lost Children, coincidentally enough (shush), by the same director. Which happened to be the best movie I'd seen since Delicatessen. Granted, there was only a week between that and the City of Lost Children...but still.

It has the same fairytale feeling, though without the grunge that you see in Lost Children and Delicatessen. And I think that he does an admirable job of addressing the issue of the reason for life, all encased in a subtely surrealistic wrapper.

I left the theater wanting to sing.

Next week we're going to see Lynch's latest, Mulholland Drive.

Thffffptht.

I like *all* movies, on principle. I don't get out to as many as I like, and on the big screen I prefer blockbuster-Hollywood style. But I rent a lot of the more creative ones.

I'll see Amelie yet. Probably not in the cinema, though. Just haven't had time.

Which is, of course, not to say anything about anyone's taste in movies. Just to say that such aforementioned tastes vary and that this product contains small irregularites that contribute to the unique beauty of the product, and should not be considered flaws.
