Pardon, but while admittedly I haven't seen the film in question (and probably won't), I'm not sure that the casting of Victor Garber could rightly be considered an "inconsistency." An unexpected piece of casting, defying the expectations of the viewer, perhaps, but odd bits of casting seldom violate any internal consistency in the film itself (unless the situation is similar to that of "Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy," where supposedly the pair spend the bulk of the film referring to themselves as Abbott and Costello, before remembering their character names halfway through or something like that. Yet to see that film as well.)
